Topo Chico Issues Recall on Bottles in Texas and Louisiana
Coca-Cola is issuing a voluntary recall for some Topo Chico bottles sold at Costco and if you’ve stocked up recently, it might affect you.
The recall affects a limited number of 16.9 oz glass bottles of Topo Chico Mineral Water, specifically from lot code 13A2541. These bottles were sold in 18-packs between May 20 and May 29 in select Texas and Louisiana warehouses.
Where to find the lot code:
The lot code can be found on the actual case and also on the neck of the bottle.
What type of contamination do these Topo Chico bottles have?
Coca-Cola says the bottles may be contaminated with Pseudomonas. This is a type of bacteria usually found in soil and water. For most healthy people, it’s not a major threat but the CDC warns it can cause serious infections in people with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of Pseudomonas:
Those infected with the bacteria may experience chills, earache, diarrhea, red eyes, difficulty breathing, urinary incontinence and itchy skin. People with medical devices, open wounds, or with catheters are prone to symptoms.
If you’ve got this specific pack in your pantry, don’t drink it. Just bring it back to Costco for a refund, no receipt is needed.
