Did you know college football had mercy rules? Me either.

Check Out This Insane Blowout Last Night in Texas

70-0 is an insane score to see for a college football game. What makes that score even more insane is that is the HALFTIME SCORE. That's right Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas was kicking the absolute crap out of North American University last night. Who the hell is North American University? Turns out that college is also in Texas over in Houston. Turns out they got a football program in 2020 (probably not the best year to start anything).

The Only Tweet from North American University

It's pretty funny if you go over to the North American University account, this is all they have for last night. Yikes! So how bad was this game last night?

How Does the Mercy Rule Go Into Effect in College Football?

From what I am seeing online, once a team goes up by 56 at halftime. The referee asks both head coaches if they would like to speed up the game and shorten the quarters. Both coaches MUST agree to this for it to take place. This has happened several times throughout the years, but nothing like last night. Typically, the coaches agree to remove five minutes of each quarter. So instead of playing 15 minute quarters, you play 10 minute quarters. Here is what happened last night.

Five Minute Quarters!

From what I am seeing on the history of the mercy rule, I have never seen a team play five minute quarters in college. So shout out to Stephen F. Austin on one of the most dominating wins ever. They would score one more time making the final 77-0. So go Lumberjacks!
