Why Amarillo Pump Prices Are Falling & How Long It’ll Last
If you've been to the pump recently, you've probably noticed that the price of gas is going down. It's great news for those of us who spend a lot of time on the road, and the good news doesn't stop there.
This trend of cheaper gas isn't just limited to Texas. It also isn't just limited to 2025. We could be seeing cheaper gas well into next year.

The recent downward trend in the price of gas is partly attributed to the annual switch to "winter gas." There are lower production costs, and there is also a lower demand than in the summer months, as people aren't traveling as much.
Forecasts Through 2026
The trend is expected to continue into 2026, when gas prices are expected to be at their lowest in around two decades. The forecasted national average is $2.90 in 2026.

This is fantastic news for us consumers. I spend a lot of time traveling, and the cost of gas dwarfs most of my other expenses.
Lower Fuel Costs = More Freedom
On a recent road trip from Texas to Washington state, I had the "pleasure" of paying for gas in several states. The most expensive and heartbreaking was in Washington state, where I spent over $4 per gallon.
Needless to say, it put a bit of a damper on the amount of fun I was having.
If this trend of falling gas prices does continue, other roadtrippers and I will be over the moon. I have several annual trips coming up, and I would rather spend my money in other ways than on extremely expensive gas.
