Can Texas Tech Keep Their Perfect Record Against Houston?
Texas Tech is favored over the Houston Cougars, but should they be.
The Texas Tech/Utah game may go down as the game of the year, or at least the one that placed serious expectations on the Red Raiders in Lubbock. But two weeks later, the same question still applies: “What have you won lately?”
Texas Tech sits at 4–0, and Houston also enters at 4–0. A streak is a powerful thing, and so is home-field advantage. The betting line currently has Tech favored at –11.5. Both teams share a common opponent — Tech dominated Oregon State 45–15, while Houston barely escaped with a 27–24 overtime victory. One thing is certain: after Saturday night, one of these teams will no longer be undefeated.
The History Between Texas Tech and Houston
Looking back at the rivalry, Texas Tech has had the upper hand in recent years, winning 11 of the last 12 matchups. However, Houston still holds the all-time series lead, 18–16–1. This weekend also marks Tech’s first trip to Houston since the Cougars officially joined the Big 12, adding extra weight to the showdown.
Can the Red Raiders Keep Rolling?
As much as fans may want to temper expectations, it’s hard not to see Texas Tech as a heavy favorite. The program feels like a sleeping giant that has finally woken up, and the Red Raiders may be poised to snack on some Cougar meat this weekend. The real question is whether the bye week gave Tech time to build momentum or whether it slowed them down.
