Texas is a beautiful, diverse state with a unique and lovely culture all our own. And there's no shame in getting a little misty-eyed if you think about it too long.

What Makes Texas Unique From Other States?

I work with a team of individuals across the country, so I can tell you the Texas things that surprise or even bewilder them: cowboy boots at all occasions, our obsession with pickles, and the cultural and retail phenomenon of Bucc-ee's.

Also, we say y'all, a lot. Way more than anyone else does. Their loss, as y'all is a perfect word.

Texas also has a unique history in the U.S., marking us forever as a state slightly apart. While it is a myth that Texas can unilaterally secede from the U.S., we still tend to see ourselves as Texans first.

Across the world, people from other nations can usually point to Texas on a map. Our reputation precedes us- for better and for worse.

How Are Texas State Symbols Chosen?

When you look at the list of our Texas state symbols, you'll likely nod your head in agreement- they are really perfect at capturing little slices of our way of life. But who makes the formal decision?

According to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, these symbols are chosen by the legislature, and any member of the House or Senate may file a resolution or bill to designate a symbol. It must be passed in both chambers and signed by the Governor.

The Fastest Animal In Texas: Meet The Pronghorn 'Antelope'

While sometimes called an "antelope," the pronghorn is the only species in its scientific family. Pronghorns are the fastest animal on land in Texas- reaching up to 60 miles per hour. They are also majestic, beautiful, and adorable creatures.

Most Remaining Fuddruckers Are In Texas, Here's Where To Find Them

Fuddruckers began in San Antonio in 1979. At its height in the late 90s, there were 150 Fuddruckers locations. Now only 54 remain, with 6 of those in the dubious state of "temporarily" closed.
