On Sunday, a new law took effect that will requires parental approval for a child to create a social media account. Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed this law into legislation last year. While this is welcome news to many parents, some social media companies have argued that there are already protections in place to protect children online!

While Meta agrees with the ultimate goal, they don't agree with this bill.  Antigone Davis, a spokesperson for Facebook parent company Meta, told Fox 4...

While we strongly agree with the underlying intent of the bill, we oppose the bill as filed

She also adds

"We've built over 30 tools to help young people be safe and have a positive experience on our platform"  "We have parental supervision tools, set time limits, and the ability for parents to see who their child is following."

Texas School District Requires Students to Lock Up Phones

According to fox4news.com, students at Grand Prairie High School and South Grand Prairie High School will be required to place their cell phones when they get to school. Students will then place the locked up phone in a backpack for the school day. On the way out of the building, students will be able to unlock the pouches and use their devices again.

If a student loses their pouch, they will have to pay for a replacement! If a student forgets bring the pouch to school, their phone will be collected and they can pick it up at the end of the day.  What do you think about this school policy?
