The Festival of Chariots or Ratha Yatra, which loosely translates to a chariot, is one of the oldest Hindu holidays celebrated in India and worldwide through the Hare Krishna movement.

Since I can remember, the Hare Krishna has been around; I would see them everywhere growing up in Los Angeles, always kind and smiling. George Harrison of the Beatles, who also converted to Hinduism, wrote the hit tune My Sweet Lord in praise of the Hindu god Krishna, which blends the Hebrew word hallelujah with chants of "Hare Krishna" and Vedic prayer. A universal catchy tune about a direct connection with our maker despite our religious backgrounds.

Now the century’s old festival is heading to town featuring a parade with traditional intricate chariots, which have been designed and constructed over months in Los Angeles and will be transported to El Paso for the celebration.

Attendees can also enjoy theatrical performances and participate in yoga, meditation, and a vegetarian feast, all for free.

The festival will also include authentic Indian music with the world-renowned kirtan band, Mayapuris along with theater performances by Prema Collective.
