El Paso Native Featured in True Story Film The Senior
El Paso has been finding itself in the Hollywood spotlight more and more lately, and honestly? We’re here for it. And now, another piece of El Paso is about to hit the big screen and this time in a movie that proves it’s never too late to chase your dreams.

FitFam El Paso shared a post on Instagram featuring photos of Fernie Acosta, an Americas High School and Sul Ross State University alum, who’s about to see his own story play out in the inspiring sports drama The Senior.
The film tells the true story of Mike Flynt, a man who, at the age of 59, defied the odds to suit up as a linebacker for the Sul Ross State Lobos. Yup! 59 years old and still ready to take hits on the field. (I’m 37 and I can barely stay up past 9 pm)

El Paso’s Connection in “The Senior” Movie:
Here’s where the El Paso connection shines: Fernie was the Team Captain for the Lobos back in 2007 when Mike made his dramatic comeback. Mike had been kicked off the team and expelled back in 1971, but decades later, he fought his way back and played during that unforgettable season.
Hollywood star Michael Chiklis from The Shield and Fantastic Four will play Mike Flynt, while actor Chris Becerra will bring Fernie to life on screen.
The Senior officially hits theaters September 19th! It’s great to see El Pasoans continue putting our city on the map!
