Here’s Why El Paso Shines Bright as the Sun City
Hey El Paso, It’s September 15th, AKA 9-1-5 day AKA a day to celebrate the beauty of the city of the 9-1-5! Back in 2021, the City of El Paso proclaimed September 15 as 915 Day, and it’s more than just our area code flex. It’s a day to honor the beauty, resilience, and love that defines our community. And fun fact: 915 Day also kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month, making it extra special for our borderland that thrives on culture, flavor, and familia.
A Little El Paso History:
El Paso’s roots run deep. Established in 1827 by Juan María Ponce de León, our city truly took off when the Southern Pacific Railroad rolled in. By 1873, El Paso officially became a city, and we’ve been glowing as the Sun City ever since. Today, El Paso is the sixth-largest city in Texas and the 22nd-largest in the U.S., with more than 680,000 people proudly repping the 915.
What Makes El Paso So Magical?
It’s not just the desert sunsets or the star on the mountain. It’s our unique spot at the crossroads of three states (Texas, New Mexico, Chihuahua) and two countries (U.S. and Mexico). It’s the way we show up for each other. It’s the pride that can’t be contained.
So today, celebrate El Paso loud and proud because 915 Day is all about us. And if you want to make your favorite El Pasoan smile today, use some of these classic El Paso pickup lines to make them smile!
