The Zika virus is a mosquito borne virus that can cause flu like symptoms and is very dangerous to pregnant women. The baby can be affected greatly if infected by the virus. So if you or someone you know is pregnant, make sure they take extra precautions during the mosquito months here in El Paso and Las Cruces, or anywhere for that matter because the virus is spreading worldwide.

The mosquito-borne Zika virus is new to the Western Hemisphere, but it already has spread to more than two dozen countries and territories. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added four more countries on February 1st including, American Samoa, Costa Rica, Curacao and Nicaragua. A travel advisory has been placed on all of these countries.
