By now you probably know that the Wyler Aerial Tramway is no longer open to the public. There were some safety issues that were found earlier this year and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department shut down the tramway. It's unlikely that there will be a quick fix to the safety problems. A Colorado engineering firm estimates that it would take about $7 million to bring the tramway up to code, so until then, we'll just have to make do with events that are still happening at the base of the tramway.

This weekend, the tram will be holding a sidewalk sale and selling the remaining memorabilia from their store. There will also be a pumpkin carving contest that you and your family can participate in.

Both events are happening Saturday, October 27.

For the pumpkin carving contest, you will need to register before the event by calling the park at (915) 562-9899. You'll have to have a carved pumpkin that can be ready to display at the visitor's center between 9 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The pumpkins will be on display during Halloween Fest for park visitors to vote on their favorite. Winners will be announced the same day, and there is no need to be present to win.
