A woman is dead after a car crash in Montana Vista on Friday, but El Paso County officials say that tragic accident is part of a bigger problem in that area.

53-year-old Juana Castro was in a vehicle that was involved in a wreck at the intersection of Julie Lane and Buntline Drive, an intersection that doesn’t have stop signs. Montana Vista residents told KFOX14 that there are quite a few intersections without stop signs in their part of town.

El Paso County Judge Veronica Escobar said it's a problem they’ve known about for some time, but because some subdivisions are not County, they can’t do anything about unmarked intersections. Escobar said residents need to let the County know where those intersections are so they can work on getting them marked. She went on to say that the County’s Public Works Department will be looking at the intersection where Castro was killed to see if signage is needed there or not.

If you live in an area of the County that needs stop signs, you can contact Escobar’s office to notify her of the problem. You can also notify any County Commissioner.
