Winterfest officials had plans for a festive winter-themed event last Thursday dubbed "Let It Snow Day," but cancelled it when it started snowing.

(I looked up the definition of irony, and, yes, someone please cue Alanis Morissette.)

“Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. It’s not often the desert sees snow, so we're bringing the snow here to Downtown El Paso," read the event description. Organizers promised attendees "that perfect Instagram pic as snow falls from the sky over the rink!”

It is not clear how they planned to make it snow, but when Mother Nature offered to help out and real snow started to fall, the decision to call off the event was made. A post on the Winterfest Facebook cited safety concerns.

The re-scheduled "Let it snow day" is tomorrow, Wednesday, December 13, from 6-9 p.m. Tickets purchased for the original date will be honored.
