Southwest High School Drone Competition

On Saturday, April 28th, the 2018 Southwest High School Drone competition took place at Del Valle High School and was crazy impressive. Teens used their sweet skills to master a number of obstacles, including hoops and little buildings. Townsquare Media teamed up with Workforce Solutions Borderplex and STTE Foundation initiative along with community partners and sponsors throughout the El Paso borderplex area, to put on this great event.

This year's teams included Northwest Early College High School (Canutillo ISD), Del Valle High School (Ysleta ISD), Presidio High School (Presidio ISD), Coronado High School (El Paso ISD), Harmony School of Innovation and San Elizario High School (San Elizario ISD). Each school was awarded a TEAM Scholarship thanks to: TFCU, Western Technical College, The Hospitals at Providence, Sarah Farms, Microsoft and Wet-N-Wild.

We had an amazing time watching these teens master obstacles, all while making us feel old because we didn't have drones back in our high school days! Congrats to our first place team from Harmony School of Innovation, along with our second place winners, Del Valle High School. Thank you again to all the teams and sponsors who helped make this a great first-time event! We hope to see it grow next year!
