Memorial Day is this weekend.  It is a day to remember the ultimate sacrifice that so many American troops have made to keep our Country free.  Next month, a former Marine will be honored for his heroic actions that saved another soldier's life.  William Kyle Carpenter is truly an American Hero.

Corporal Carpenter was in Afghanistan in November of 2010, when he jumped on top of a grenade to save a fellow Marine.  The two Marines were with Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, and were manning a rooftop post.  Two Marines had been wounded the day before in fighting with insurgents.  Carpenter's action saved the life of Lance Cpl. Nicholas Eufrazio, but, sadly, he suffered grave brain injuries from shrapnel.

Carpenter has undergone 30 surgeries since that day, but he has also begun school at the University of South Carolina, run in and completed a Marine Corps Marathon, and become an inspiration for other wounded soldiers.

Our thoughts and prayers, and sincerest thanks, go out to William Kyle Carpenter.  He is an amazing Marine, and an amazing man who is so worthy of the title American Hero!
