This weekend is tax-free weekend, and that means a lot of shoppers and drivers will be out on El Paso roads. Because of a miscommunication between TxDOT and the El Paso Police Department, a planned shut down of I-10 between the Sunland Park exit ramp to the Sunland Park overpass didn’t happen, and there was a possibility that it could happen this weekend and cause real problems for back-to-school shoppers.

Thankfully, TxDOT officials said yesterday that it will not shut down I-10 during the tax-free holiday this weekend. TxDOT says they know there will be a lot of people on the road and it wouldn’t be a good time for a shutdown of I-10.

TxDOT took responsibility for this past weekend’s missed I-10 shutdown, saying there was a miscommunication between their office and the El Paso Police Department. TxDOT didn't say when they plan on rescheduling last weekend's missed shutdown of I-10, but they said when it happens they will make sure everyone is on the same page.
