The Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos kicked off the NFL regular season last night, and while the cameras were rolling, the Ravens were patted down as they left the locker room.  What the heck were they looking for?

NFL officials say the pat downs weren’t done because thought the Ravens might blow the joint up – they did them to make sure that the game was fair.  They said the random pat downs happen all the time, but cameras have never been around when they’ve gone down.

So why do they do it?

Officials were looking for anything a player might have applied to their uniform that might make it harder for the opposing team to make a tackle.  Mike Pereira, who used to be the Vice President of Officiating in the NFL, and is now a Rules Analyst at FOX Sports tweeted this about the pat downs:
