Why is El Paso’s Star on the Mountain Blue? We Know!
If you’ve driven by the star on the mountain in the last day or two you may have noticed that its shining blue and perhaps you’ve wondered why. The change in color is in observance of National Police Week, and Police Officers Memorial Day.
The El Paso Police Department and the El Paso Municipal Police Officers Association along with the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, and the star’s corporate sponsor, T and T Staffing Solutions, are lighting the star blue in memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting and serving our community. Twenty nine El Paso Police Officers have been killed in the line of duty between 1883 and 2012.
The star will remain blue nightly through May 24th, 2014.
