The days are getting shorter and it’s almost that time that we fall back one hour in autumn.

The time change will take place this year on November 3, 2013 at 2 a.m.

This is also a great time to check the following around your home:

  • Replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. Replace any smoke alarms older than ten years. Replace any CO alarms older than five years.
  • Be prepared and carry a car-emergency kit in your car year-round. Even though we don’t get blizzards we are prone to cold-weather, so make sure you add gear to your general car-emergency kit each fall. You can add blankets and a change of clothing, even good traction footwear.
  • Prepare a disaster supply kit for your house like water, food, flashlights, batteries, blankets.
  • Check and discard expired medications – yes, medications do expire and can affect the effectiveness of some over-the-counter medications.

Stay prepared this fall when we ‘fall back’ in time.
