Wear Purple To Show Your Support Against Bullying
Thursday, October 20th is national Spirit Day. Founded in 2010 by a teenager, Brittany McMillan and promoted by GLAAD. Spirit Day occurs annually on the 3rd Thursday in October during National Bullying Prevention Month. Now studies show that LGBT youth are in an increase risk of bullying and subsequent suicide attempts, compared to their non-LGBT peers.
Spirit Day has now become the most invincible day in support of LGBT youth with students, schools, major league sports teams, the empire state building and everyone from Oprah to Vice-President Biden, taking a public stand against bullying by going "PURPLE," the color that symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag.
So, on Thursday, October 20th, be sure to wear purple, to show your SUPPORT and SPIRIT and join in the conversation online using the #SPIRITDAY!
