‘Viva El Paso’ Returns to McKelligon Canyon This June
One of the most enduring El Paso summer traditions, Viva! El Paso, will return to McKelligon Canyon Amphitheater for a 14 show run this June and July.
The 41st season of the outdoor extravaganza, which chronicles the 400 year history and cultural evolution of El Paso and the border region, will get underway on June 15 and run every Friday and Saturday night through July 28, 2018.
This year’s production will again feature Tony-Award winning playwright Marty Martin's refreshed script, live mariachis, and new music written specifically for the show by acclaimed El Paso musicians Jim Ward and Gabriel Gonzalez.
Burgess alum Keith Townsend, who is directing the show for the third straight year, says that while some changes have been made, the show's most popular songs and elements from its decades-long past remain in place. The handful of revisions include shortening some scenes and spotlighting the live mariachis more than last year.
