Virtual El Paso: Aztec Caves
EL PASO THROUGH THE EYE OF A CAMERA LENS: Aztec Caves, submitted by Veronica Almeida. "This is a pic I took looking out from the Aztec caves up in the Franklin Mountains," she writes, adding, "The hike was awesome and as you can see the view [is] beautiful!"
The Aztec Caves are neither Aztec nor caves. They're more alcoves than caves. As for the Aztec part, according to my research, the name was given by early settlers who believed the Aztec hid their treasures there to keep them from the greedy Spanish Conquistadors.
NOTE: Send me your picture of El Paso through the eye of your camera lens and I just might feature it in a future posting. Email the pic along with your name and a brief description of the photo to mike@ksii.com
