TIME magazine has named UTEP President Diana Natalicio one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Natalicio, UTEP’s president for nearly three decades, is recognized in the TIME 100 “Leaders” section alongside 30 other global leaders, including President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and former Fort Bliss commanding General Sean MacFarland.

Natalicio's profile for the magazine was written by San Antonio's former mayor and current Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Julián Castro.

A much lengthier account of her journey from high school honor student to the longest-serving president of a U.S. public research university can be found on the El Paso Times website.

The 2016 TIME 100 full list and related tributes will appear in the May 2 issue, available on newsstands this Friday, April 22.
