UTEP Announces a New Season of Musicals Produced by Theatre Students

UTEP’s Dinner Theatre is giving qualified theatre students a chance to produce, design and direct musicals for the remainder of the 2015-2016 seasons beginning with the production of The Last Five Years.

UTEP theatre students who are part of Side Dish Student Productions will receive funds and mentorship’s enabling them to mount a fully-produced musical. These student productions will be staged in a specially configured intimate black box setting inside the Dinner Theatre. However, there will not be any meals served for these productions. This new project will give students another opportunity at UTEP to hone their skills and will give El Paso audiences a chance to see a new and edgier fare that wouldn’t normally be produced at the UTEP Dinner Theatre.

Side Dish Student Productions inaugural show will be the Off-Broadway Hit, The Last Five Years which was named one of Time Magazine’s 10 best shows of 2001. A film adaptation was also released back in 2014 starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

The Last Five Years is an emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

The Last Five Years show schedule:

• Dec. 4, 5, 11, 12, 2015 at 8 p.m.
• Dec. 6, 13, 2015 at 2:30 p.m.
• All seats are general admission and no meal will be served for these performances.

Tickets go on sale Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 to all UTEP Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni Association Members, Military and Groups of 20+.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015 and will be available through the UTEP Ticket Center or by calling (915) 747-5234.

• $10 - UTEP STudents with Valid ID (1 per ID)
