If you were hoping that the new year would mean an easier commute, you should probably sit down.

TxDOT says 2018 traffic is going to be worse than 2017's traffic.

TxDOT officials say that work on the Sunland Park area and in the Fountains at Farah will necessitate a lot of closures and a lot of changes in how traffic is handled in those areas.

The GO-10 Project on the westside is supposed to be wrapped up by the end of the year, but the most difficult part of the construction is coming up. Crews will demolish the fly-over entrance ramp to I-10 East and extend the current Sunland Park overpass. That part of the project will go on for about three months.

To fix the traffic mess in the Fountains at Farah and Cielo Vista Mall areas, TxDOT will begin putting in braided ramps at the intersections of Hawkins, Airway, and Viscount. Braided ramps will keep vehicles from using the same lanes to merge. Construction on those ramps is scheduled to wrap up in November.
