A horrific, fiery that shut down I-10 for nineteen hours was the result of the driver of a semi truck rear-ending a vehicle two women were riding in. Those women were killed when their vehicle and the semi burst into flames.

El Paso Police say the driver of the semi, Fateh Singh of Fresno, California, was eastbound on I-10 around 6:00 Monday evening when traffic began to slow down. Singh failed to control his speed and hit several vehicles.

In addition to the two women who were killed when the semi hit them, five others were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic on both sides of I-10 was shut down throughout the Monday night. Eastbound traffic wasn’t opened back up until early Tuesday morning. Traffic on the westbound lanes was allowed back on until later Tuesday afternoon, in part because of smoldering cargo in the semi.

The accident remains under investigation at this time. Police have not filed any charges at this time.

Our condolences go out to the families of the victims of this terrible accident.
