The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre and the Abraham Chavez Theatre have been named in the Top 200 Theatres Worldwide 2014 end-of-year reports by industry leader Pollstar.

Pollstar is the world’s largest database of international concert tour information and has the most reliable and accurate worldwide ticket sales results.

The list is compiled yearly and breaks down all the ticket sales of each venue world-wide as reported to Pollstar for shows played during 2014.(You can see the complete list here)

The top three venues are:

  1. Auditorio Nacional Mexico City, Mexico with 1,375,169 ticket sales
  2. Radio City Music Hall New York, NY with 1,178,978 ticket sales
  3. The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Las Vegas, NV with 509,633 ticket sales

The Plaza Theatre was listed at number 114 with a total of 48,829 in ticket sales, while the Abraham Chavez Theatre came in at number 128 and had a total of 40,574 in ticket sales.

The Plaza Theatre opened in 1930, and accommodates about 2000 seats and started out as a vaudeville, burlesque house and then into a movie theatre. The one-of-a-kind theater features an atmospheric ceiling with twinkling stars and lazily floating clouds and was the first public theater in the U.S. with air conditioning.

The Abraham Chavez Theatre is a concert hall that seats about 2,500, and is named after Maestro Abraham Chavez who was the longtime conductor of the El Paso Symphony.
