If you’re thinking of doing some early Christmas shopping at the Outlet Shoppes of El Paso, or going to a soccer game at the Westside Sports Complex, you need to know about some big freeway closures in the Trans Mountain area this weekend.

TxDot will be closing both sides of I-10 on Sunday from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. to continue work on the Trans Mountain exit project.  Work on that project began in 2011, and is supposed to be completed in the fall of 2014.

Here is what will be closed:

  • I-10 Eastbound will be closed between Talbot Exit Ramp and Artcraft Overpass.
  • I-10 Westbound will be closed between Artcraft Overpass and the Transmountain Entrance Ramp.
  • I-10 Westbound Transmountain Exit Ramp will also be closed.

The big problem, of course, is that the Trans Mountain exit is heavily used by customers of the Outlet Shoppes at El Paso.  Outlet Shoppe officials say they are used to dealing with freeway closures, and previous closures haven't seemed to bother their customers.

The Westside Sports Complex will also be affected by the Trans Mountain closures.  Both the El Paso Classic Soccer and Paso Del Norte Soccer Association leagues will be having games on Sunday at the Complex, but a spokesman for the Paso Del Norte Soccer Association said the teams are getting used to having to take detours to the games.
