Here’s what’s going on in and around El Paso this weekend, May 17 – May 19. Some events are free, some will cost you a few bucks.

FRIDAY:

Alfresco! Fridays – The 11th season of the free weekly outdoor music series continues with the R&B sounds of Sha’Vonne & the Vibe. 6 p.m. Arts Festival Plaza (between El Paso Museum of Art and Plaza Theatre). No outside food or beverages, or pets allowed. 534-0665

FRIDAY – SUNDAY:

Diablos Baseball – The El Paso Diablos battle it out at Cohen Stadium with the Amarillo Sox Friday through Sunday. Fireworks after the game Friday, Diablos Hat Giveaway on Saturday, Quartermania on Sunday. 7 - 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday. Box Seats $8.00, General Admission $7.00. More Details

Moore’s Greater Shows Carnival – Rides, food and games! 5 p.m.- midnight Friday,  2 p.m.- midnight Saturdays, 2-10 p.m. Sunday in the Cielo Vista Mall parking lot. Admission is free, but rides cost 3 to 5 tickets; tickets are sold for $1 (or 24 for $20). $25 for a wristband good for unlimited rides.

SATURDAY:

Armed Forces Day - Fort Bliss’ annual open house event featuring equipment static displays, demonstrations by area high school JROTC Armed and Unarmed Drill Teams, entertainment by 1st Armored Division Band, chili cook-off, car show, food and drink concessions. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Biggs Park. Admission is free and the public is welcome. 568-4505

Kids to Park Day - Franklin Mountain State Park hosts the 2nd annual National Kids to Parks Day. Events include birding, pictograph making, archery, bicycle repair workshop and more. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McKelligon Canyon Park, 1331 McKelligon Canyon. Admission is free. 566-6441

Downtown Artist Market – The market offers the chance to shop for original arts and crafts in an outdoor setting while enjoying entertainment featuring local artists, food vendors and free activities for the entire family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Plaza District (near The Garden Restaurant) along Anthony Street. El Paso County Presents Movies by the Lake – Bring the whole family, a blanket or chairs, and spend a relaxing evening watching a free movie (“Skyfall”) by Ascarate Lake. Grab a bite from any of the six food trucks, or bring your own food. No alcohol allowed. Free, but you will have to pay the regular $1 per car fee to get into the park. The movie will start at 8:00 PM. More Details

Downtown Ghost Tour – Walk the streets of haunted downtown El Paso, and hear stories of betrayal, unique symbolism of buildings, and see the deadliest intersection of the Old West. 9 – 11 p.m. Meet between History Museum and Main Library by 8:30pm. $10 a person. 408-7461

Concordia Cemetery Ghost Tour - Experience the hauntings of Concordia Cemetery. Bring your cameras and become the Ghost Hunter. 9 – 11 p.m. Meet at the Yandell entrance at 8:30pm. $10 a person, 13 and over. 408-7461

SATURDAY - SUNDAY:

Art in the Park - Arts and crafts fair sponsored by the City Parks & Recreation Department featuring local crafted items and local art vendors selling and displaying their wares and free entertainment by local music and dance groups. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Memorial Park, 1701 N. Copia off Copper. Admission is free. 544-0753

Feast in the Middle East - The 47th annual May dinner and festival. The event includes live Arabic music, all your favorite authentic Middle Eastern food, bake table and guided church tours. Noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 120 N. Festival. Admission is $2, children 9 and under get in free. More Details

Fiesta for the Missions - Little Joe y La Familia, Malo and local bands are among the performers for the benefit concerts to support on-going preservation and restoration of the Ysleta, Socorro and San Elizario Missions. 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday at the Ysleta Mission, 131 South Zaragoza. Tickets: $10 in advance at Howdy’s; $15 at the door. 872-8412

Rockin’ The Rez Pow Wow - Ysleta del Sur Pueblo’s 4th annual pow wow with Native American dance, food and crafts from tribes throughout the area. All day at Socorro Entertainment Center, 11200 Santos Sanchez. Admission is free. 841-0048

SUNDAY:

Mission Trail Art Market – Area artisans will display their fine arts and crafts. Food and drink concessions will be available plus entertainment by the Pistoleros de San Elizario who will perform a Billy the Kid breakout reenactment at the old county jail. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the historic Veteran’s Memorial Plaza at the San Elizario Chapel, 1500 Main in San Elizario.
