James Massone was instantly eliminated by coach Cee Lo while Pip was also sent home by his coach Adam Levine during the quarterfinals tonight (April 23) on ‘The Voice.’ The coaches had to effectively take one of their team members to the barn and shoot them, metaphorically speaking.

The coaches watched four of their team members perform and then were forced to eliminate one of ‘em. Cee Lo axed Massone solely because of tonight’s performance and Levine sent Pip home even though it was a tough decision. That leaves three performers on each team.

Now, you can vote for your favorite. The two lowest vote getters will go home tomorrow, leaving each gentlemen with two team members in the semis.

Here is the PopCrush recap and breakdown of what happened on the episode

Team Cee Lo:

Jamar Rogers: The HIV-positive singer performed Bon Jovi‘s ‘It’s My Life’ and he looked so hip with ripped jeans, a leather jacket, baseball cap and surrounded by fire. Oh, and he has the smoky soul voice that shoulda made New Jersey’s favorite sons in Jovi proud.

James Massone: Billy Joel‘s ‘Just the Way You Are’ was the tune that the Cee Lo-christened “Lady Killer 2″ sang. The song felt a bit too old for the mechanic who could be on the cusp of stardom.

Cheesa: She considers herself diva-esque, so she ripped the roof off with Whitney Houston‘s ‘I Have Nothing.’ Diva’ing ain’t easy but Cheesa boldly went there. The decision paid off for the powerhouse vocalist.

Juliet Simms: The rocker tore through Aerosmith‘s ‘Cryin,” since she sounds like a female Steven Tyler. She turned in a rowdy, husky rendition of this 1990s hit.

Team Adam:

Katrina Parker: She emoted beautifully with Christina Perri‘s lovelorn ‘Jar of Hearts,’ looking like Adele with her big wavy hair and cat-eye liner. She stood in the middle of a lighted heart, and that’s what we call staging. It was seeping with emotion from stem to stern. She’s a favorite of Adam’s, a status she had to work hard to earn.

Mathai: The teenage nursing student sang Nelly Furtado‘s pretty and unusual ‘Like a Bird.’ She didn’t seem confident or like she connected with the song, but it was still solid.

Tony Lucca: Previously labeled ‘one-dimensional’ by Christina Aguilera, he sang a rocking version of Britney Spears‘ ‘…Baby One More Time.’ He had to break a few eggs to make this omelet. It was unexpected and surprising. The crowd reaction was, as Carson Daly said, “Bieber loud.”

Pip: He redeemed himself with ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ by Brit pop act Keane. It was imperfect, but in a likeable way. We subtracted points, though. He ditched his signature bow tie, which we did not like! As you know by now, his coach sent him home. Boo!

Tune in tomorrow night at 9PM ET to find out who viewers send home.
