El Pasoan Elia Esparza isn't the only contestant representing our area on NBC's The Voice.

A 16-year-old from Mescalero, New Mexico made it past the blind auditions on the popular singing competition reality show too.

Khaliya Kimberlie got Blake Shelton and Miley Cyrus to simultaneously turn their chairs about 45 seconds into her rendition of the Kelsea Ballerini Top 10 country music hit Dibs on Tuesday's episode (Sep.27).

"I can get you a trophy," Shelton matter-of-factly told her during his pitch to land her on his team. But despite Blake's not so subtle reference to the 4 times a team member of his has won the competition in its 10 seasons, the 16 year old chose newcomer Miley as her coach.

Khaliya, who said she wants to record country music with an alternative twist, advances to the "Battle" portion of the show.

In the "Battle Rounds," each coach pairs two of his or her team members to perform together, then chooses one to advance in the competition. Public voting does not factor into the contest until the final live performance phase of the competition.

Elia Esparaza, the 23 year-old from El Paso whose rendition of Selena's Como La Flor prompted 3 of the 4 judges to turn their chairs, joined Team Adam.
