The Fourth of July is Wednesday, and I wanted to revisit a column I wrote for The Newspaper Tree back in 2009. I updated it a bit, because, thankfully, Ryan is not currently deployed, as he was when I originally wrote this column...
Happy Fourth of July! Are you a Freedom-loving American hoping to celebrate the 4th by lighting off a few firecrackers knowing the long arm of the law wants to shut you down? If you're planning to risk the possible fines and jail time that comes with getting caught, then at least be safe about it.
Fireworks and the Fourth of July. They go together like burgers and fries, baseball and hot dogs. But with the current drought index rising almost daily, and no rain in the forecast, the county has banned the sale and use of all fireworks. So what’s a person who wants to get his pop on to do?
This what a wildfire looks like kids, and we found out exactly how hard it is to put down a brush fire in the county today. After a fire was reported last night around 9:30, it took almost 100 firefighters close to 6 hours to put down the blaze that started in some, wait for it, DRY BRUSH in a field!
