Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial, official start to the summer.  There's the Balloon Fest, and family cookouts, and a three day weekend!  But there is a reason we call it Memorial Day.  This is the reason.  I could go on and on about this clip, but watching it, and you'll need a box of Kleenex when you do, answers any questions about war, fallen heroes, and why we honor our dead...

Sad day...

We hear every day that freedom isn't free, but as we get ready to head into the three day Memorial Day weekend full of swimming and cookouts, the families and friends of five Fort Bliss soldiers who were killed earlier this month came face to face with just how much freedom really costs.

Let us remember those who gave their lives for this great country.

Major General Dana Pittard has been the commanding general at Fort Bliss since July of 2010.  His last day is this Thursday, so last night he sat down to talk about Fort Bliss past, present, and future on ABC-7 Xtra.

Fort Bliss is reeling from the announcement of the loss of two more soldiers in Afghanistan.  Please keep them and the troops who are deployed in your prayers.

There's good news and bad news for civilian workers at Fort Bliss and throughout the Department of Defense.

Armed Forces Day is Saturday, May 18th, and Fort Bliss is opening the base to everyone for a day fun at the Fort!

If you are a soldier, or the family member of a soldier, and you're looking for a job, we have some good news for you.  There is a job fair this week at Fort Bliss designed with you in mind.

There is tragic news out of Fort Bliss today.  Five soldiers stationed at the post have been killed in Afghanistan.

Earlier this week, Fort Bliss Commander Maj. Gen. Dana Pittard revealed that he had accidentally sold a family heirloom Bible at a yard sale.  Good news!  He got it back!
