Here are six bars you won’t be going to tonight after the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) shut them down. According to the TABC press release, the bars affected had employees engaged in narcotics trafficking.

In total, the six bars faced a total of 80 administrative violations, and their licenses were canceled. It’s unclear how long the investigation was underway, though the TABC referred to it as “long-term.”

The alleged offenses include multiple instances of sale and delivery of drugs and drug-free zone violations committed by the employees and permit holders at the six bars. With the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations, the El Paso Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, eight of 17 suspects were arrested on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance. — TABC Press Release

Oh, snap. Probably shouldn’t have done that, huh?

It’s even worse that everything happened within so-called “drug-free zones” set up by the Texas Health and Safety Code. Basically, if you’re within 1,000 feet of one of these zones, you face heavier penalties. These zones are near playgrounds, schools and daycares.

“Several of these locations are in close proximity to each other and we are confident that the closure of these establishments will have a positive impact on the surrounding community.” — Ron Swenson, TABC Special Investigations Unit via Press Release

If you need to contact TABC to report illegal activity, call the statewide office at 888-THE-TABC (843-8222) or here in El Paso at (915) 351-3697.
