Horse racing at Sunland Park Racetrack was put on hold after 72 horse tested positive for the equine herpes virus last month. Racing was suspended because horses were put under quarantine and the whole track was affected. Word came down this weekend that the outbreak might be contained and racing might resume as early as the end of this week.

Sunland Park Racetrack officials say that it has been six days since a positive result for the equine herpes virus. If there are no significant outbreaks this week, racing is scheduled to resume on Friday. A task force will meet on Tuesday, and if they are given the go ahead, Sunland Park will make an official announcement about the resumption of racing.
