Student Who Was Accepted to Eight Ivy League Schools Planned to Use College Money to Bury His Mother

Dellarontay Readus, the young man who was accepted to all eight Ivy League schools lost his mother and planned on using some of his scholarship money to cover the funeral expenses.

The 18-year-old has worked and studied hard to make a better life for his mother and family and even earned a GPA of over 4.0 in high school and as a result was accepted to all eight Ivy League schools, finally settling on attending Stanford University.

But just a month before he was to start classes, his mother passed away after a long struggle with heart and stomach issues. Faced with mounting expenses for her funeral, Readus had no options but to use some of his college money to cover the funeral costs until his older brother decided to create a GoFundMe account. They were asking for only $2,000, but thanks to the generosity of strangers, the account has reached over $36,000.

Readus was quoted as saying, “It's just that it hurts so much, I can't do anything else but cry. It feels terrible, man, because my mama was honestly my reason for everything I've ever done."
