Starr Western Wear is heading west.

El Paso Inc. reports the owner of the two Starr Western Wear stores in El Paso, Enoch Kimmelman, has purchased the building formally occuppied by Macy's department store at Sunland Park Mall and plans to open its third location there this summer.

Kimmelman told El Paso Inc. a west side location was needed in order to be closer to a large part of their customer base.

We get a lot of Westside, Upper Valley, Anthony and Las Cruces customers who come to us Downtown, and we’d just like to shorten that commute.

He added that the new location will also tap into the large number of Mexican shoppers who cross over to shop via the Santa Teresa port of entry.

At 100,000-square-feet, the Sunland Park Mall location will be even bigger than the Eastside location -- and that's saying something given that the 11751 Gateway Blvd location is billed as "the largest western-wear store in the region."

The added room means the new store will be carry a larger selection of products and brands than the Downtown and Eastside locations.
