Fear of spiders is universal. One Indiana woman’s reaction to seeing one, however, isn’t.

Police in Kosciusko County, Ind., say 35-year-old Angela Kipp got so scared by a spider on her shoulder that she dove out of her moving car, leading to a crash that injured her 9-year-old son who was riding with her.

According to published reports, Kipp was backing out of her driveway when she spotted the creepy crawly on her, and bailed out of the car in response. Fortunately, the kid is better in a crisis situation than his mom, because with the car still moving, the 9-year-old climbed into the front seat to try to apply the brake, but hit the gas instead, sending the vehicle into a school bus that was driving by.

The bus was not carrying any children at the time, and its driver was not injured. The child suffered a minor head injury. There was no word on the spider's condition.

Charges have not been filed against the mother at this time.
