As you all know, my son Ryan is in the military.  I've written about him often, and I've always gotten a wonderful, supportive response from our Mike and Tricia Mornings listeners.  That's why I was a little surprised to see a bit of a backlash about a story our news partners at ABC 7 did on Estela Casas' son, Marcos Hernandez.

Estela Casas son wins high school player of the week award

Estela's news cast co-host, Rick Cabrera did an ABC 7 Listens on a couple of emails the station got after they ran a story about Marcos being named the Built Ford Tough High School Player of the Week for the state of Texas.

The kid is really good - he's a wide receiver, running back, kick off returner, and punt returner, and he's gained over 1,500 all purpose yards this year.  But, a couple of viewers emailed the station and blasted Estela for the story.  Turns out, she didn't want the story to run in the first place, but Kevin Lovell, KVIA's general manager, said he wanted it done because Marcos deserved the recognition.

So the question is, do you think KVIA should have done the story?  I mean, it's not like Marcos isn't a great football player, but does having a news anchor mom mean his accomplishments can't be considered newsworthy?

Take my poll, please!
