Shoplifters Say They Thought ‘Tax-Free Holiday’ Meant They Could Take What They Wanted
Two women in Georgia were arrested for shoplifting this past weekend, but claim the only thing they're guilty of is misunderstanding what the state meant by "tax-free holiday."
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports 23-year-old Brittany Yawn and 26-year-old Simone Harris of Temple, Ga., explained to police that they were under the impression it was a "free holiday" weekend, meaning they could take whatever they wanted.
What they took were two $79 Polo shirts, two $148 jackets, two $65 pairs of Nike pants, and two pairs of $105 jeans. It's the jeans that had police doubting their story, because one of them was wearing the stolen jeans under a pair of sweatpants, even though it was 90 degrees out.
