The schools in Ruidoso will continue to be closed as precautions as the wildfire draws near. Fire crews responded to the fire at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, and at that point the fire had burned an estimated 50 acres. Over the next few hours the fire burned about 150 more acres.

The fire, named the Moon Mountain Fire, was 30 percent contained Tuesday morning. Another fire was then detected about 15 miles southwest of the Moon Mountain fire on Tuesday. An air tanker has been requested to help suppress the second fire.
