A 40-year-old man who recently traveled to the Caribbean was confirmed as to be carrying the Zika virus. He is from Bernalillo county and came back to the states when he reported feeling flu like symptoms.

Health officials in the state say there will likely be a jump in cases in New Mexico as the summer temps continue to rise. There is a high warning set for those traveling outside of the country to places such as the Caribbean to travel prepared with protection. Make sure to use plenty of sunscreen and a mosquito repellent with at least 20% deet.

Pregnant women are cautioned to not travel during this time. The first confirmed case of Zika was in March when a 46-year-old man Bernalillo man was confirmed as a carrier.
