When it was first announced the San Jacinto Plaza was going to get a makeover, many El Pasoans wondered why the city wanted to fix something that wasn't broken. The fear was that in modernizing the park its history would be erased.

But as the photos below show, those fears were pretty much unfounded. Many of the familiar park features, such as the diagonal walkways and the alligators sculpture as the main focal point, remain.
