San Antonio Raises Legal Age To Purchase Tobacco

I shared this article I saw posted by mysanantonio.com and the response and reactions were out of control. San Antonio has become the first city in Texas to make the legal age to purchase tobacco, 21.

According to state law, it is already prohibited to sell any type of tobacco products to anyone under 17 years or younger but the law is now going further and will target retailers selling such products to people ages 18, 19 and 20. Any retailers found selling tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21 could face a fine of up to $500 according to mysanantonio.com.

Personally, I feel like the new law will cause a stir because of the movement to legalize marijuana. Certain states have already legalized recreational marijuana and I believe that other locations making new restrictions on tobacco sales will consider the new law a step back. The comments on the post shared to my social media accounts were all in favor of the new law making 21 years of age the age to be able to purchase tobacco products in San Antonio.
