Christopher Rey Moreno, a Roswell police officer who falsely accused a Sonic employee of spitting in his drink has resigned from the police department Tuesday night after the investigation into his claims began.

Moreno was arrested Wednesday night and charged with false reporting, malicious criminal prosecution and tampering with evidence. Officials found methamphetamine, 19 syringes, three meth pipes, three marijuana pipes, a BB gun, and several other criminal items.

Police say officers also searched Moreno’s home and found a stolen license plate so now he also faces additional charges on possession of a controlled substance, paraphernalia possession, larceny and receiving stolen property.

Roswell police are investigating the situation. They are trying to figure out why Moreno had the items in his car. Moreno had worked as a patrol officer for Roswell police for 1 1/2 years. He was arrested at his home Wednesday night and booked into the Chaves County Detention Center on a $5,000 surety bond.

He bonded out at about 11 p.m. Wednesday night. And has commented that the items were not his.
