Remains of Partially Burnt Body Found Near NMSU Campus

New Mexico authorities remain on the scene of an investigation of a partially burnt body found on the campus of NMSU. The body was discovered inside a tunnel under 1-25 near Aggie Memorial Stadium after someone reported smoke coming from inside the culvert on Monday.

Because of the condition of the remains police do not know the identity of the individual nor do they know if the body is that of a man or a woman. The cause of death is still being looked into as well.

Update 1/29/14 7:05 p.m.: Authorities have concluded the partially-burned body was that of a man. His identity and manner of death has yet to be determined .

Update 1/29/14 9:49 a.m.: The Las Cruces Sun News reports an identity and cause of death won't be possible until after an autopsy is performed by the medical examiner. No timeline for one was given.
