MountainStar Sports Group, the El Paso ownership group hoping to move the Tucson Padres Triple A baseball team to El Paso, said today it has been asked to provide a Preliminary Application Review to the Pacific Coast League of Minor League Baseball.

In the announcement, MountainStar said they "are very encouraged" by the request, calling it "a standard step in the PCL approval process [that] represents a positive signal" and a good sign that approval to buy the franchise could come soon. As has been previously reported, moving the team to El Paso is contingent on a new downtown ballpark, which City Council has assured will happen one way or another.

MountainStar officials said in the press release they expect official approval in about 30 days.
