Monday, February 17, is a federal holiday observing Presidents' Day. So do your children have to go to school? How about banks and post offices, will they be open or closed? What about the mall?

Well, if your kids are enrolled in the El Paso, Ysleta, or Canutillo Independent School District, then no, they don't have to go to school on Monday. Everyone else, including EPCC and UTEP, is required to attend.

Presidents' Day is also a U.S. Postal Holiday so the post office lobby will be closed and you won't get any mail delivery either. And because the day is a federal holiday, it's a bank holiday too so any banking will have to be conducted online or at an ATM.

The El Paso County Courthouse and all federal offices will be closed as well. It will be business as usual, however, at City Hall and other city run departments, and bus routes will not be affected; Sun Metro will be operating on a regular weekday schedule.

On the upside for teachers, students, and others lucky enough to get a 3-day weekend, malls and retail stores aren't taking the day off, which means you can shop-till-you-drop and take advantage of savings on all kinds of holiday sales.
