After experimenting with a laser light show last year, the time-honored tradition of fireworks on the Fourth is returning to Fort Bliss this year.

Because of safety issues involving the newly developed housing area next to Biggs Park, the decision was made to have a laser light show last year rather than nothing at all. But the matter in question has been worked out and the annual Pop Goes the Fort event will once again celebrate America’s independence the way it was meant to be; with patriotic music and a big fireworks display.

The fourth annual Pop Goes the Fort will be held Friday, July 4 at Biggs Park, 11388 Sergeant Major Blvd. The 1st Armored Division Band will get things going at 6:30 p.m. followed by the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and the USO Show Troupe. The Independence Day Firework's show will follow immediately after that.

Gates for the event, which is free and open to the public, will open at 4 p.m. You are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and coolers; however, pets, glass containers and outside alcoholic beverages are not allowed. For more details, consult the Fort Bliss MWR Facebook page.
