A dog running loose in a Central El Paso neighborhood was shot by an El Paso Police officer after it ran after and attacked other officers today.

Officers were on the 3000 block of Mobile Street around noon today looking for a wanted person when the dog began to chase and attack them. One of the officers shot the dog. The dog was hit once, but is alive and under the care of El Paso Animal Control Services. A witness at the scene said the dog was acting aggressively before the officer shot it.

No officers were injured in the incident.

It is not known if the warrant the officers were trying to serve when the incident occurred was served. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
